# Prerequisites

## **Server Certificate**

Ideally this can be provided by an internal CA or a CA on the public Internet. For an Internal CA, see the [Using a Web Server Certificate](https://documentation.2pintsoftware.com/stifler/2.10/configuration/securing-stifler-operations-with-ssl/using-a-full-iis-certificate) page for more information.  

If it is difficult to acquire a web server certificate, you can use a [self-signed certificate](https://documentation.2pintsoftware.com/stifler/2.10/configuration/securing-stifler-operations-with-ssl/using-iis-to-create-a-self-signed-certificate).

Note: If the StifleR Server service and the StifleR Dashboard are hosted on separate servers, both servers will need their own certificates.

## **Client Certificate** (if using a self-signed certs)

* If using a self-signed certificate the clients will need their own certificate.
