# Configure operating system

The Configure Operating System step currently performs one task: It optionally can be configured to import the root certificates that were included in the Windows PE boot image to the new OS.  This could be necessary if the new OS is not yet managed or joined to a service that can automatically deploy these root certs to the device.

Note that this step also ensures that the OSDTargetSystemDrive task sequence variable is set to "C:" for the new operating system.  (The Format disk step initially sets this to "S:".)
