# Install online language pack

{% hint style="info" %}
Applies to: DeployR 1.4 and later.
{% endhint %}

The **Install online language pack** step downloads a language pack, and the language features that go with it, from Windows Update and installs them in the running operating system. It can also make that language the system preferred UI language.

| Option                            | Description                                                                        |
| --------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Language | Language tag of the language pack to install, for example `ja-JP` or `de-DE`. |
| Make system preferred UI language | Sets the installed language as the system preferred UI language. Default: `false`. |

### Requirements

* Run this step in the full OS. It uses the `Install-Language` and `Set-SystemPreferredUILanguage` cmdlets, which are not available in Windows PE.
* Windows 11 or Windows Server 2022 and later.
* Internet access to Windows Update.

Unlike the language settings in **Set Windows settings**, which only work when the language is already in the image, this step adds the language to the installed OS. To apply other settings, such as the time zone and user locale, still use **Set Windows settings**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://documentation.2pintsoftware.com/deployr/reference/step-definitions/install-online-language-pack.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
