# Windows bare metal

The "Windows bare metal" template is a useful starting point for deploying Windows images. It will format the disk, apply the specified operating system image, inject any needed driver packs from the available content items, then boot into the new Windows OS to install Windows updates.

After creating a task sequence from this template, edit the [Apply Operating System](/deployr/1.2/reference/step-definitions/apply-operating-system.md) step to specify the operating system that you want to deploy. Also consider adding either an [**Offline domain join**](/deployr/1.2/reference/step-definitions/offline-domain-join.md) step or an [Enable administrator account](/deployr/1.2/reference/step-definitions/enable-administrator-account.md) step so that you can log into the new operating system.
